All staff members are carefully chosen for their ability to balance technical knowledge with “people skills” during the implementation of programs, have experience with diverse populations and have extensive experience in a wide variety of disciplines.

Staff are matched to the needs of our clients. Business and/or corporate experience will be matched with corporate clients just as staff with backgrounds in special education will be matched with students who have special needs. Summit Vision staff are patient, compassionate, open-minded, well-educated, thoughtful, safety conscious, professional, playful, competent, and imaginative.

Our staff are passionate about lifelong learning and will pass this enthusiasm on to you. The average age of our staff is 38. We are proud of the maturity, experience, and breadth of knowledge reflected in this number. You will notice a high quality of professionalism as a result of this maturity, particularly during debriefing discussions.

Trey

Trey McBane | Summit Vision President

Trey is the president of Summit Vision but still loves to facilitate in the field! He has a B.S. in Recreational Management & Sports Leadership from the Ohio State University and has been working in the field of adventure & outdoor education for 32 years. He has been a trip leader, facilitator, trainer, program director, camp director, videographer, photographer, and program designer for a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. including Outward Bound and Renaissance Leadership. His experiences have provided him opportunities to work with youth groups, college students and corporate executives throughout the world. Currently his experience includes teaching a course at the Ohio State University. When he is not working at Summit vision or OSU, you will find him traveling, participating in adventure races, or spending time with his twin daughters and lovely wife.Trey’s philosophy on adventure education can be summed up with this quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes, “The human mind once stretched by a new idea can never return to its original dimensions.
Karen

Karen Burke | Office Manager

Karen has a B.S. in Recreation Education from the Ohio State University and has been working in the outdoor and adventure education industry for 25 years. Her experiences include positions as canoe instructor, lifeguard, facilitator, counselor, and therapeutic aid for numerous organizations throughout the U.S. including Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the YMCA. Her scope of experience includes working with adjudicated youth in Montana’s wilderness areas to making a mean cup of coffee in the woods or civilization. When she is not working at Summit Vision, she is biking (either leisurely or for 200 miles during TOSRV), reading, skiing, doing beadwork, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, or playing with her husband, dogs & daughter.
Ted

Ted Masters | Corporate Sales

Ted has been with Summit Vision since 1998 and since then has developed and maintained relationships with some of the top firms, educational institutions and sports programs throughout the country. When he wasn't leading programs at Summit Vision, he was establishing himself as Senior Vice President and multiple award-winning recruiting consultant for a national firm specializing in the financial industry. He remains active in recruiting, and now operates his own firm. Ted attended East Carolina and Ohio State University, and has over 25 years’ experience in the fitness industry. He has been certified in personal training through the American Council of Exercise (ACE), the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and is certified through The Cooper Institute in Dallas, TX, in The Biomechanics of Strength Training. Ted's background has contributed to his knowledge of management and marketing as well as his genuine ability to connect with people from a multitude of diversities.
Jason

Jason Peck | Assistant Summer Camp Director

Jason grew up in Calgary, Alberta where he fell in love with working in the outdoors, specifically with children and youth. He has worked at various camps and youth centers throughout North America and accumulated 20 years’ experience in the industry. He attended Bow Valley College where he obtained a Level A Advanced Certification in School Aged Child Care. When not at Summit Vision he can most likely be found hosting live trivia games, playing games with friends and family or relaxing with his wife. Jason says that his favorite part of working with the public at our facility is “Getting to see the personal growth that anyone can obtain, when learning to work as part of an effective group”
Veronica

Veronica

Veronica is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a BS in Biological Sciences emphasizing genetics. She did research on zooplankton and algae for three years for OSU’s Center for Lake Erie Area Research at Stone Laboratory, Put-In-Bay, Ohio, and has two publications in this area. She is passionate about helping people reach their goals, reach new heights in their personal growth, and achieve things they didn’t think they could do. When not at Summit Vision she can be found hiking, kayaking, or just being outdoors.
Chuck

Chuck

Chuck comes to us with quite an amazing background. After graduating high school, where he was actively involved with the Scouting community, Chuck joined the United Stated Naval Academy and proudly served for 30 years. Following his Naval service, Chuck worked with search and rescue in multiple areas of California. Chuck brings an incredible energy to the staff of Summit Vision, always has a kind word and a positive outlook for anyone who has the fortune to meet him.
Merida

Merida

This May Merida will graduate from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology. After summer ends she plans on backpacking throughout southern Asia and then possibly perusing a year or two as an au pair in Europe. She is a very happy and mellow person and in her down time likes to read satirical novels, go on hikes, collect vinyl and hula hoop or do yoga pretty much constantly. Merida says her favorite part of this job is "how much I learn from the kids and how rewarding it is to explore the outdoors and challenge ourselves together."
Riley

Rachel

Rachel recently graduated from the University of Akron with a B.A. in Spanish and has spent the past 5 summers counseling at summer camps and adventuring throughout Central and North America. During the school year, she is a preschool teacher, librarian, and barista in the Akron area. She enjoys reading, her cat Buddy, and the great outdoors via backpacking, camp, and ATVing. Since starting at Summit Vision in 2015, Rachel knows she will always come back to Columbus for 7 Summits Camp!
Dan

Dan

Dan has worked at Summit Vision for two summers now and is very much looking forward to the start his third summer. He is currently studying mechanical engineering at Miami University. When Dan is not working or studying he loves to run, swim, read, play the piano, and spend time with friends and family.
Riley

Riley

Riley was born and raised in Columbus. She was a camper at 7 Summits while growing up and has absolutely loved the opportunity to become a camp counselor! Riley graduated from The Columbus Academy and is currently attending the University of Southern California. Riley is studying Global Health and Chinese. She is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority where she serves as the internal philanthropy chair of her chapter. Riley leads a group of sorority sisters every week as they read to a first grade class at a local elementary school. When asked why she does this, she will proudly tell you "So I get to work with kids year-round!" In her free time Riley loves reading, working on art, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Ella

Ella

Ella is a graduate of the Columbus Academy in Gahanna, Ohio and currently attends the University of Southern California. She spent several summers attending 7Summits as a camper, and loved it so much she decided to work for Summit Vision! She loves hiking and anything outdoors, and took part in a National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) mountaineering course for a month in the Waddington Mountain Range in British Columbia. She has also hiked a 60-mile section of the Appalachian Trail and is a member of SC Outfitters, the outdoor and hiking club on campus. She hopes to spend some time in the Peace Corps and eventually work somewhere in the US for a nonprofit organization like Amnesty International. Until then, she can't wait to spend her summers having fun at camp and spending time at 7 Summits, one of her all-time favorite and most memorable places!
Kirby

Kirby

Kirby has a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with minors in Religious Studies and Global Studies. She is currently pursuing her master’s in Anthropology at The Ohio State University and is specializing in paleoethnobotany (that’s the archaeology of plants). Growing up, Kirby was involved with Girl Scouts from kindergarten all the way through high school. Through scouting, her love grew for all things outdoorsy. She loved the energy and excitement of summer camp when she was little and always dreamed of being a camp counselor someday. Bonding with the kids and seeing how they grow so much in one short week is one of her greatest joys, so she is very much looking forward to her first season with Summit Vision. When she is not working at camp or studying for school, Kirby enjoys reading, spending time with her dog Nova and cat Batman, cooking new things, or hanging out with friends and family.
Josh

Josh

Josh is currently pursuing his B.S in Education (physical education and health K-12). In the past, he has served 5 years in the Marine Corp, 2 deployments and 3 years as a martial arts instructor. This is his first summer at Summit Vision and he hopes to stay and be a part of the team as long as he can, learning as much as possible along the way. Josh lives by one rule, "keep your inner child, live and do the things you love". When not working Josh's interests are kayaking, canoeing, camping, rock climbing, anything outdoors and he loves cartoons.
Dylan

Dylan

Dylan is currently pursuing a B.M.E with a concentration in Choral Music and a minor in Dance at The Ohio State University. This is his first year with Summit Vision and he is excited for the opportunity. After college he plans to be a high school choir director. He is a member of the Men’s Glee Club at OSU and Tenor Section Leader. For Dylan, on highlight of singing with Men's Glee Club was performing in New York City at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. He also serves as the Secretary for the ACDA (American Choral Director’s Association) Ohio State Student Chapter, and is also involved in NAfME (National Association for Music Education). He enjoys volunteering with his church’s youth group, and also with Capriccio Youth Choir. He likes to spend quality time outside with his dog Carmen and roommate Dominic. Daily, he likes to remind himself of a quote by Mark Twain, “Why not go out on a limb? That’s where the fruit is.”
Shelbie

Shelbie

Shelbie has a BSeD in Integrated Language Arts and English Education. Along with working at Summit Vision, she also teaches English at The Charles School at Ohio Dominican University. She is an avid reader who often finds herself engulfed in stories from other mystical lands. She is a native of northwest Ohio who came to Columbus for college, fell in love with the city, and decided to stay. This past summer was her first camp experience and she had an amazing time and cannot wait for the adventures to come next summer.
Shelbie

Taylor

Taylor is a currently a student at The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in Physical Activity and Coaching Specializations. Instead of returning to her hometown in Cleveland, Taylor spent her first summer as a counselor/facilitator at Summit Vision in 2016. She loved getting outside and adventuring with her campers and made it her mission to positively impact all of her campers. When Taylor isn't spending her time at camp, she is coordinating events for the PESPA Club which she is the president of, playing a pick-up game of basketball, or volunteering with LifeSports. After graduation Taylor hopes to pursue a career in athletic or recreational directing while also coaching basketball at the high school and eventual collegiate level.
Natalie

Natalie

Natalie is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in Human Development and was newly hired at Summit Vision this past summer. She was raised in Westerville, and she has been working with kids for almost 10 years now. Natalie knew from early on that her passion was to work with kids in some way. Being able to watch the kids jump out of their comfort zone and build friendships brought such a smile to her face. Natalie loves working with children whenever she can, spending time outside, activities with her roommates (whenever possible), and her cats.
Karen

Karen

Karen has a B.S. in Education from Ohio Dominican University and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University. She has 22 years of teaching experience in Columbus Public Schools (mainly as a special education teacher) and has been facilitating adventure education programs for 20 years. She joins the 7Summits Camp familily in the summers and brings with her a wealth of experience and patience. Karen’s other pursuits have included camp director, real estate agent, musician (guitar, keyboard, banjo & dulcimer), mentor for 12 – 16 year old girls and youth group advisor for teens! She is retired from teaching but you wouldn’t know it as she substitute teaches and works for Summit Vision throughout the year. When she is not working with children, she enjoys reading, kayaking, hiking, biking, and skiing. Karen believes that Aldous Huxley knew what he was talking about when he said,”Experience is not what happens to you, but what you do with what happens to you.”
Bryan

Bryan

Bryan has a B.S. from West Liberty State College in Criminal Justice and Pre-Law with a minor in Psychology and a M.S. from the Ohio State University in Sports Management & Marketing. He has been a corporate facilitator for over 15 years. Not only is Bryan a top-notch facilitator, but also a highly accomplished athlete whose wrestling career provided him opportunities to travel the world. When he is not working for Summit Vision or busy running his own company (a Summit vision partner), he is spectating and supporting his 4 children at a variety of sporting events. His company, Driscoll Learning LLC, is widely recognized for helping organizations develop effective teams, navigate change, and increase annual meeting & event impact by utilizing adult learning principles that foster self-discovery.
Jen

Jen

Jen has a B.S. in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Bowling Green State University. She has been working in the outdoor and recreation field for over 7 years. Her adventures have included work opportunities in Australia, Massachussetts, and at the Ohio State Fair as a big yellow slide operator (when she was a teenager)! During the school year she teaches at Marburn Academy where she is responsible for the Voyageurs Program (an outdoor education and expedition program). Summer time brings Jen out to 7Summits Day Camp where you will find her laughing, playing, and spreading joy among campers and staff alike. She loves watching American Idol (& incidentally knows the lyrics to almost any song ever written), skiing, wake-boarding, camping, rock climbing, traveling, swimming in the ocean, and hanging out with friends.
